Alameda County Zone 3A Flood
Mitigation Study

The Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District selected Wood Rodgers to develop a significant flood mitigation analysis and design for the 22-square-mile Flood Control District 3A watershed. The project focused on integrating existing geometry from survey data, as-built construction plans and improvement plans, and extensive field data collection to create a model that assessed flood reduction measures. GIS played an integral role in the success of the model by visualizing the results of field data collection visits including culvert locations, site photographs, hydraulic model parameter estimation data, and gauged data; creating animations of the observed precipitation across the watershed in comparison to those prescribed during design storm simulations; and creating multiple exhibits displaying the various aspects of the project, from hydrology input parameters to the quantification of results.
