Wells and Pump Stations

The Natomas Central subdivision (located in Sacramento, California) has a dry-season lake water demand of 1,400 gpm with a 100-percent redundancy requirement. In order to provide a central location for the water production and to reduce the need for a second dedicated well site, Wood Rodgers developed a design that included two wells on a single standard-size parcel. By constructing the wells in different aquifers, they were able to be located only 35 feet apart. The wells were constructed with annular seals that hydraulically isolate them from one another. The wells both have specific capacities of approximately 45 gpm/foot and can operate simultaneously to produce a total of 2,800 gpm with no measurable mutual pumping interference. Wood Rodgers also designed the pump stations, including civil, electrical, and structural components. By using the innovative approach of two wells on a single parcel, Wood Rodgers was able to considerably reduce the project construction costs.
