Sparks Galleria is a retail shopping center consisting of nearly 650,000 square feet of retail space. The project is located in an area known for the presence of expansive bedrock, hydrothermally altered rock, (altered to montmorillonite), courses through the host rock along joints and veins. We worked closely with the builder and contractor to develop a program that allowed for selective mining on-site, complimented by value engineering and a dynamic geotechnical engineering program that provided for modification of placement recommendations based on material properties. The arterial and collector roads were designed per the City of Sparks and the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) design requirements. Our staff was responsible for providing geotechnical engineering services, construction quality assurance, materials testing during construction, and Engineer of Record services.
