The PetSmart distribution facility encompasses over 55 acres and consists of an 872,000-square- foot distribution facility, constructed of concrete tilt up panels and slab on grade flooring, and a paved truck maneuvering area. The site’s shallow bedrock and cemented soils presented excavation challenges and parameters that were difficult to quantify for bidding considerations by grading and blasting contractors. Our team successfully managed these obstacles and when the project was complete, the blast quantity was within 25 percent of what had been characterized with the biggest variation occurring in an area that was not within the original investigation limits.
