Wood Rodgers was retained by the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) to design transit shelters along US 50 throughout the City of South Lake Tahoe for the BlueGo transit system. The shelters consisted of a mix of prefabricated structures and redwood shelters that were custom designed to blend into the Lake Tahoe environment. The project also upgraded some existing bus stop locations to meet current ADA requirements and added stop locations to the bus system. Following completion of the Transit Shelter Project, the US 50 mainline routes experienced a 9.5% increase in ridership over the previous year. The new shelters have improved comfort and safety for existing riders while also increasing visibility of the transit system to new riders and visitors alike.
