This 7-mile east/west corridor stretches from the west edge of downtown Reno to the east edge of Sparks (Prater Way) and is coincident with the historic Lincoln Highway or Highway 40, the United States’ first transcontinental highway conceived in 1913. Many of the regions most significant historical sites are located along the corridor, including the original Nevada-California-Oregon Train Depot built in 1910, the Reno Brewing Company, and the location of the Jack Johnson v. Jim Jeffries “Fight of the Century” heavyweight championship boxing match in 1910. Wood Rodgers responsibilities included land use and transportation planning, urban design, and public outreach. The scope also included redevelopment/economic development scenario planning and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) analysis due to the desire to improve the multi-modal capacity of the corridor, support transit, increase livability, promote infrastructure improvements, and encourage private investment.
