Location: Washoe County, Nevada
Working with Washoe County Department of Engineering, this project consisted of a unique public-private partnership to construct the first floodwall and levee along the Truckee River which will ultimately be one of the more than 40 features included in the Living River Plan. The approximately 2,300-linear-foot floodwall and levee system was built along the south bank of the Truckee River. The levee consists of over 41,000 cubic yards of soil and the floodwall consists of over 2,000 cubic yards of concrete. The fill material that was excavated was reprocessed on site and used in the levee and backfill of the floodwall wherever possible to alleviate truck traffic on freeways. The project features a trail along the riverside utilizing environmentally conscious “Warm Mix” asphalt. Our team provided the quality control testing and inspection during construction and Wood Rodgers was recognized for our work by the Northern Nevada Chapter of the ASCE project of the year award.
