Wood Rodgers was retained to complete all baseline field investigations to support a Nationwide Permit (NWP) application for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). A NWP 14 requires concurrent submittal of a Mitigation Plan. Wood Rodgers’ wetlands specialist and civil designers worked hand-in-hand to develop three alternative designs to determine which would be the least environmentally damaging and thus requiring the minimum post project development mitigation. The project was designed to minimize impacts to waters of the United States and to avoid impact to a National Historic Register Site located in close proximity to the proposed crossing of White’s Creek. Mitigation will be implemented along both the north and south banks of White’s Creek, where the basis for mitigation design is to stabilize these banks by installing willow staking where necessary. The proposed mitigation area consists of two bands of willow staking along the toe of the slope of the eroded and/or disturbed banks. Further mitigation of the eroding and/or directly disturbed banks will include seeding with an appropriate seed mix at the completion of construction. Upon completion of project construction, in accordance with the permit conditions monitoring for success will conducted for five years.
