Wood Rodgers provided master planning, permitting and civil design for the redevelopment of the City of West Sacramento’s Bridge District. The Bridge District was historically an industrial area adjacent to the Sacramento River and directly across the river from downtown Sacramento. It was the City’s desire to redevelop the area as a cutting edge urban center for employment, retail and housing. The project required completion of master plans for sewer, water and drainage infrastructure. The project includes a 3.6 mgd sewer lift station, a sewer force main crossing under US-50, widening of the US-50 off ramp, pipe crossings of Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way, two traffic signal modifications and unique urban street improvements. A key element of the work was developing Low Impact Design (LID) solutions that reduced runoff so that offsite drainage facilities did not have to be upsized. A sophisticated traffic management plan was required, that had to account for the River Cats Triple AAA baseball stadium remaining in service for the duration of the project.
